We are pleased to announce that the CSU is seeking applications for the 2017-2018 Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP). The purpose of this program is to increase the number of promising doctoral students applying for future CSU faculty positions by offering assistance in the form of a financial loan and mentorship by CSU faculty. The funds source is the Lottery Revenue Budget.
Established in 1987, the CSU CDIP is the largest program of its kind in the nation. As of 2016 the program has loaned $48 million to 2,081 doctoral students enrolled in universities throughout the nation. Of these participants 1,275 have successfully earned doctoral degrees and 735 (56%) have obtained employment as CSU faculty. CSUN has hired 30 tenured track faculty from this program.
Participant Eligibility – The following students are eligible to apply:
New or continuing full-time doctoral students currently enrolled in a U.S. University.
Undergraduate and master’s level graduate students (including DACA students) in the process of applying to doctoral programs and lecturers who are enrolled full-time in a doctoral program.
The CDIP will lend participants who are full-time doctoral students up to $10,000 annually. The loan is limited to $30,000 within 5 years for new or continuing full-time graduate students pursuing doctoral degrees at accredited universities. If the participant obtains a full-time instructional faculty position in the CSU, loan principal and interest are “forgiven” at the rate of 20% for each year of service.
